Sunrise Quad Ride in Merzouga

1 hourErg ChebbiEasyPrivate

For early birds: ride the cool, untouched dunes at dawn, see the sun rise over the Sahara and be back for breakfast.

At dawn the wind has erased yesterday's tracks and the sand is cool and firm: it is the best moment of the day to ride. We pick you up at your hotel or desert camp in Merzouga about 45 minutes before sunrise.

We ride in the blue light to a dune facing east and wait for the first ray to touch the crests. After the show we take a different route back, with long shadows drawing every ripple of the sand. Ideal in summer, when the afternoons are too hot.

Good to know

Wear closed shoes and long trousers. Rides leave at the time you choose; in summer we recommend sunrise or sunset.

No payment is needed to book: you pay on the day in cash (dirhams or euros). Free changes if the weather is not good.

Before you ride

Do I need experience to ride a quad?

No. The quads are automatic and you get a briefing and a short practice on flat sand before entering the dunes.

Can children ride?

Drivers are usually 16 or older. Younger children can ride as passengers with an adult on a duo quad or in a buggy. We confirm the details when you book.

What should I wear?

Closed shoes, long trousers and sunglasses. We give you a helmet, goggles and a Berber scarf against the sand. In winter bring a warm layer for sunset.

What is the best time of day?

Morning and late afternoon, when the sand is cooler and the light is beautiful. In summer we ride only at sunrise and sunset.
